Active Anti-Racism Measures
In light of recent events within our community and nation wide, Lafayette Roller Derby has taken a pledge to actively pursue anti-racism measures within our league and community.
What is Anti-racism?
“Anti-racism is the active, on-going process of dismantling systems of racial inequity and creating new systems of racial equity. Anti-racism demands that this work be done at internal, interpersonal, institutional, and cultural levels in order to effectively address systemic racism. Anti-racism is an approach, not an end-point, and thus provides a useful frame for an organizational change process.” (Deeper Anti-Racist Organizational Change: More Tools and Resources. What is LRD doing to help?
- Skate-a-thon for the Grater Lafayette Legal Defense Fund
- Cleaning up after local protests
- Fundraising for organizations that support People of Color (POC)
- Education and league training on microaggressions
- Formation of a diversity committee
- Incorporate anti-racism policies in our skater code of conduct

LRD is very lucky to have an amazing community in which to be active. We would like to acknowledge that LRD events and training take place upon traditional lands.
We recognize and respect the Kiikaapoi, Peoria, Bodewadmiakiwen, and Mayaamia people.
If you would like to learn more about whose land you walk upon please visit https://native-land.ca/ for more information
In addition to competing throughout the Midwest, LRD is proud to host a number of home games throughout the year, currently at the Tippecanoe Country Fairgrounds.
LRD takes pride in community engagement. A percentage of all ticket sales (plus funds raised during home bouts) supports a local charity work in Tippecanoe County.
Thanks to your support, we were able to give The Girl Scouts of Central Indiana almost $700 in 2017 and over $400 to the BackPack Program run by the Rotary Club of Lafayette in 2018, and $400 to the Girl Scouts in 2019. As a grassroots organization we understand the importance of giving back to our larger community and whenever possible support local businesses and charities through volunteerism and donations.
Lafayette Roller Derby has been a Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) member since 2013.
